Pandit Channulal Mishr

Since my childhood, with and around my environment and 'mental' growth, music "made, played as well grew" parallel around me. During the end of '70s my father had purchased a LP (Long Play) with the face and name of a budding hundustani vocal artist at that time called Prabha Atre. Personally I was quite childish. Yet, after my first hearing I was feeling excited though not particularly in its technical aspects. A few days later I hear it again. I was getting a simple yet 'different' feeling. Calm, relaxed and sense of mixed combination of spiritual as well happiness. As I grew, I used to get the opportunity for various festivals and concerts and eagerly waiting to hear more and particularly for that similar raag. That was the time I came to know that it is a particular rendition raag called Maru Bihaag. Years later last year during the end of 2009 I was in Music Academy in Chennai for the live concert of Pandit Channulal Mishra. My past memories were 're-enlightened'. So here is a creative compilation the raag Maru Bihaad rendered by Pandit Channulal Mishra in a drut teentaal to share with friends, old and new.

A romantic evening raag with its much-loved Maaru Bihaag is of fairly recent vintage. The Maaru Bihaag in currency is widely acknowledged to be a product of Atrauli-Jaipur founder Alladiya Khan's prodigious imagination. Over the years and in the course of its journey across regions, the raag has acquired quaint touches and flavors reflecting the idiosyncrasies of some of the more creative minds.
