Vrishali,Listening to this link was a treat, especially on my B'day! Thanks! But I was looking at the title 'Guru-Shishya' and was wondering if it's right! Coz, Panditji & Ustadji are of different gharanas (Kirana, Rampur Sahswan resp), though the latter is considered to be the "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music" as Panditji once remarked!!
There is no doubt that the clip is great. But the caption 'Guru-Shishya' is not right. To my knowledge Rashid Khan was not a student of Pandit Bhimsen ji at any time. Milind Nadkarni is right.
Altho, Ustad Rashid Khan's Guru is the Late Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan Sahab of Rampur - Maihar Gharana, who had the patronage of the Maharaja of Baroda {Sayaji Rao Gaikwad}.... :)
Indeed Mr. Abhijeet. Ustad Rashid Khan is a family friend {more like a child to my parents / my Gurus {Smt. Sudha Mathur & Pandit Sarvesh Chandra Mathur} since the age of 11yrs and holds them in the highest esteem. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi is reliev...ed that Indian Classical Music {Vocal} has a Torch Bearer for the future... And therefore the recent interactions. Aside of his Shiksha at the SRA { also under Pt. Vijay Kumar Kichlu - The founder of SRA along with the ITC and my Father's Classmate at Allahabad Univ (Muir Hostel) }, U. Rashid Khan has taken informal tutelage under many Gurus besides being influenced by the Late Amir Khan Sahab and the Late Ustads Nazakat - Salamat Ali Khan... He is indeed a Child Prodigy - A Star - A Genius... Warm regards. Somesh Mathur... http://deodates.com/ http://www.maestromathur.com/
Note the antara line that Bhimsenji sang impromptu ...and Rahsid Bhai was taken by a storm & awe. One could feel the difference of the power of Bhimsenji...
Abheejeet- you treate us daily. What a good taste! Thanks so much! Rgds
