राग मारू बिहाग - राग एक आवाज़ अनेक

Since my childhood, with and around my environment and 'mental' growth, music "made, played as well grew" parallel around me. During the end of '70s my father had purchased a LP (Long Play) with the face and name of a budding hundustani vocal artist at that time called Prabha Atre. Personally I was quite childish. Yet, after my first hearing I was feeling excited though not particularly in its technical aspects. A few days later I hear it again. I was getting a simple yet 'different' feeling. Calm, relaxed and sense of mixed combination of spiritual as well happiness. As I grew, I used to get the opportunity for various festivals and concerts and eagerly waiting to hear more and particularly for that similar raag. That was the time I came to know that it is a particular rendition raag called Maru Bihaad. Years later last year during the end of 2009 I was in Music Academy in Chennai for the live concert of Pandit Channulal Mishra. My past memories were 're-enlightened'. So I decided to compile the collections on raag Maru Bihaad. I have put this together sung by various raagdhaari hindustani vocal singers to share with friends, old and new.

    SOMETHING MORE ABOUT...
    A RAGA.....
    (Sanskrit rāga राग,રાગ, রাগ, literally "colour, hue" but also "beauty, melody"; also spelled raag, rag, ragam) is one of the melodic modes used in Indian classical music.

    योऽसौ ध्वनिविशेषस्तु स्वरवर्णविभूषितः ।
    रञ्जको जनचित्तानां स च राग उदाहृतः ।।
    "That which is a special dhwani (tune), is bedecked with swara (notes) and varna and is colorful or delightful to the minds of the people, is said to be rāga"

    The Sanskrit noun rāga is derived from the verbal root rañj "to colour, to dye". It is used in the literal sense of "the act of dyeing", and also "colour, hue, tint", especially "red colour" in the Sanskrit epics. A figurative sense "passion, love, desire, delight" is also found in the Mahabharata. The specialized sense of "loveliness, beauty", especially of voice or song, emerges in Classical Sanskrit, used by Kalidasa and in the Pancatantra.[4]

    The term first occurs in a technical context in the Brihaddeshi (dated ca. 5th to 8th century[5]), where it is described as "a combination of tones which, with beautiful illuminating graces, pleases the people in general".

    Rāginī (Devanagari: रागिनी) is a term for the "feminine" counterpart or "wife" to a rāga. The rāga-rāgini scheme from about the 14th century aligned 6 'male' rāgas with 6 'wives'

    A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.All deep things are song. It seems somehow the very central essence of us, song; as if all the rest were but wrappages and hulls!If the King loves music, it is well with the land. Without music life would be a mistake.Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons. You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music.
    There's music in the sighing of a reed;
    There's music in the gushing of a rill;
    There's music in all things, if men had ears:
    Their earth is but an echo of the spheres.

    HEY UR LOVE IS REALLY WONDERFUL....GR8
